Be greated fellow true Civers!

I wonder a bit about the theme music of Civ1. Is there a way to rip it, or has anybody heard of it being made into a mod/mp3/mid file? I just learned to play it on the piano.. duu doo diiii, doo duu daw..

When I played the game back in '93 or something I had an Adlib soundcard that made it sound real good, all channels worked. *sigh*

I riped it onece from a SNES emulator. I had it in a mod file. But I haven't got it any more

But I did send it to someone (sorry don't remember who) maybe he got it!

Thanks Håkan.

I guess that was Jvaldeztoo?
I'll try to find the snes-game too.

That made a nice rhyme.

A couple of months ago I tried to rip it by playing the game on one computer and recording the music using my microphone, but the quality of the recording was pretty bad so I ditched it.

I never thought of that. That is a way to capture any sound from a computer...

If you just plug the output signal from one computer to the input of another, you can record whatever comes out there!

So this is what to do: Lets get a hold of the sound card they designed the original game for, and record it to a wav-file on another computer!

If you can get it to work.....I'd like a copy.

That music is cool!!

And R, I love the sig.

Thanks CornMaster!

Yes the music and the sounds gives me that nostalgic kick, just like bubble bobble, outrun and giana sisters at C64...

But does anyone have a computer with the right sound? With the newer soundblasters, some channels seems to be missing.

Soundblaster, yeah... Cmon the game was meant for PC speaker. Only then do the sounds sound right.

Cmon yourself...

No offence, but I had the game in 93, and it sounded wonderful with the adlib-compatible card I had on the 386 DX40...

Jeff Briggs used more than PC speaker's one channel beep-sound when he composed.

Just listen to the intro theme, or the sound when you build a city improvement, or the french anthymn... mmmm. The problem is that the sound hardware standards were not really set in 91, so there is some instruments that are quiet with the midi-sound at the soundblasters.
Do you seriously think Briggs composed it for PC-speaker, or that some midi-channels were meant to be missing? NO! that's a part of the Civ1 cult.

(they made the torch for a reason too, TTG)

Still - TTG has my full civ-respect.

STOP STOP STOP guys!!!

I've the solution to all your rip problems. And it's more simple than you thought. Well, it' really so simple that nobody found it
wink.gif

I'm lucky to play Civ1 on Macintosh. If anybody knows how Mac work, it's very simple to rip the music, using the Resedit ressource editor! I've ripped ALL the themes. Each countries anthem, the opening, the ending, the losing themes. Everything. And it's in 44Khz, a very good quality. You all know the great capacities of the Mac concerning sound... When it was released on the Mac, PC soundblaster soundtracks were no match for Mac version soundtracks

Anybody want it? I can then try to find my old disks of Mac Civ and rip again for you. Just let me know.

Just a last thing to say.

TTG, you shouldn't waste your time trying to record the music using such a system.
wink.gif

The quality you get is not worth. And as far as I can remember, SNES version was not terrible...

Hey GenghisKhan! I would really like those files. Perhaps you can email them to me?

The losing theme... I've hardly heard it....
crazyeyes.gif
If you say it like that I suppose it's not Jeff anyway. Is it a piece of one of Bach's classical works?

Well well, guessed that
smile.gif

Look, I've not my Mac here yet. I'm waiting for it next week. Then I'll rip again the files and send them to you. Sorry you'll need a little of patience
frown.gif
I also suppose you want them all?
And of course, I'll need your email address. Or I suppose I can access it by looking at your profile. But how can I do that? I don't know.

BTW, anybody else interested?

The losing theme... I've hardly heard it....

Just have a game with me, you'll listen it more often
lol.gif

Is it a piece of one of Bach's classical works?
Nyet comrade. Also Beethoven. 3rd symphony 2nd movement (Eroica) or something like that.
