Hey I read some Hate! once and it was pretty cool. I didn't understand some though, I guess comic book references? I dunno... I also saw something called the book of Jim? It was by a guy named Jim, forgot the last name, but it was interesting. Cerebus has nice artwork. :goodjob: But I don't really keep up with it... I would keep up with Cerebus, but I just end up spending my money on something else.

Hehehe, that artwork's too funny. I forgot about Stinky, he's a dirtball! I knew the real life Stinky.

I like manga....
I like Sandman....
I like Corto Maltese....
I like Frank Miller's works....
I like Don Rosa's works....
I like Carl Bark's works....
I like Far Side....
I like Calvin&Hobbes....
I like a lot of stuff....

Well, I used to own a comic shop a dozen years ago, and yes, I was into it. ;)

SANDMAN!!! I read some of them! They's good. I bought some of Neil Gaiman's "non comic" books and they alright too. Angels and Visitations has some really good stuff in there...

AOA, so what kind of money did ya make with your comic shop? Or is that the reason you USED to own one?

It was fun, but didn't make a lot of money.

Comics took a big hit in the mid 90s when Marvel went bankrupt, but they are slowly returning.

If you like Judge Dredd (A fav of mine) try to get the stuff from 2000AD, his original Brit mag from the 1970s.
Great stuff. ;)

Marvel went Bankrupt??? Geez... Never even heard of that. So how did that happen? Were they sued?

I know, 2000ad rocks! All Marvel comics except Marshall Law sucked bigtime anyway, as i said, 2000ad and Fantagraphics is my kind of stuff!:D

In the mid 90s, a number of comic artists wanted greater control of their creations, and Marvel was unwilling to do this, so with Todd McFarlane (the same guy that paid millions for McGwire's HR ball) in the lead(he was drawing "Spider-man", and was considered Marvel's top talent), they formed "Image" comics.

Marvel lost almost all it's top artists to Image, and to lure talent started raising the cover price of comics in order to pay artists top dollar, and releasing "specials" (Double sized books, Foil covers, Hologram covers) in all it's line of books, reguardless of whether it was an aniverasy or not, so you had books like FF costing $4:50 instaed of $1:50, with lower quality art to boot, but never giving up creative control.

They also tried to flood the market with more and more new titles, and eventually buried themselves under all this crap.

Since that time, they were bought by a billionare dude, and they have started to slowly re-release their line.

Marvel may suck now, and did in the 90s, but from 1961-through the 80s they were top dog, with the coolist characters, best stories, and best creative people.

If you ever get the chance, read Fantastic Four 1-101, they are unbeleavably good, as were most of Stan Lee's books in the 1960s.
