Anyone know if Windows Vista is backwards compatable? I know one of the great things about XP was that it could play older software because it was backwards compatable. What do you think of Windows Vista in your own experience?

Also, AMD or Intel? Which do you prefer, and for what reason? Which do you think is a better buy at this moment (Sept 16,2007)?

Should be in the computer section.

I didn't like vista and un-installed it.

have previously installed vista gave me no end of trouble in getting games that would work with XP inc Civ4, therefore removed it & went back to XP & will stay with it for at least another 6months.
Prefer intel but only because have not used others.

Edit: You can use the "Edit" button on your post to make changes, without making another post. ;) --Padma

Civ4 works flawlessly for me on Vista.

Yes, I thought it would - you seem to be well skilled in advanced computing, and the minor problems that pepper Vista aren't a problem for you. I think I'd be similar. However, there are some who aren't as computer literate and find the slightest problem very disconcerting.

I don't think (now, I haven't tried it extensively so take this with a pinch of salt) that Vista is half as bad as most people make out - it's just most people are put off by errors (understandably, because they have no idea how to fix them) and they recoil from the bugs in Vista.

Asher are you using 32 or 64 bit vista as i was using 32bit version i have heard of others having problem with the 32 bit version.
