I recall entering the middle ages with a few turns to go on Literature, and as I recall, the time to research Literature went up. Does the cost of Literature (or any non-optional ancient age tech for that matter) increase when you enter the middle ages? I guess I might have accidently picked another tech and then picked Literature again.

The only thing I can think of is the loss of a nation, you knew that knew Lit. If it was eliminated, I would expect that to alter the cost of the tech, increase it.
