Counterproposal to this

Problem:
China's UB -- the Paper Maker -- is bland, underpowered, thematically and historically silly, and it doesn't even give you Paper. Literally Unplayable.

Rather than just giving people the option of changing the UB, I thought I would give the community the opportunity to vote if they wanted China to have a UB, a UNW, or a UI
Spoiler Proposed UI :

Siheyuan
Unlocked at Currency
Must be built on Flat Land, either adjacent to a city or to 2 other Siheyuan and not on a Resource

1:c5gold::c5production::c5science::c5culture:
Yields an additional 1 :c5gold::c5production::c5science::c5culture: if City is in a WLTED
+1:c5culture::c5gold: at Civil Service
+1:c5science::c5production: at Architecture
+1:c5science::c5culture: at Electricity

UA Changes:
remove the +%:c5food: during WLTED

The idea for the UI is to spread out from cities along flat land until they hit some sort of impediment like resources, hills, or something else. This would give the appearance of a sprawling suburban area, with the siheyuan forming Hutongs between them.

Credit to @ghost toast for the model. The icon is by me. I can implement the sql, but I need help from a DLL modder for the build prerequisite and for the yields during WLTKD

This is my favorite of the 3 proposals. I like the symmetry of 3 WLTKD-focused civs:
  • Indonesia gets large % modifiers during WLTKD from their UB
  • Brazil gets empire-wide happiness during WLTKD from their UA
  • China would get large flat yields during WLTKD from their UI

Trying to remember the kasbah yields…at first glance this seems even stronger than that due tk the ease of infinite WLTED

The Kasbah is 1 :c5food: 2:c5production:2:c5gold:2:c5culture:, so 7 yields. The Kasbah is a guaranteed 6 improvements around the city while the Siheyuan is more variable (resources and hills around city block it). It also doesn't do the extra things a Kasbah does, like city defense and damage.

Ah forgot the flat land, yeah that likely would reduce it quite a bit

This seems cool and fairly powerful. The main issue will be it is probably rather swingy. Randomly checking my current game with five cities most of them can't build many and some of them zero. But one of them could make 14! with lots of chopping and even 5 more for other cities threading into other areas. But I doubt it is ever broken so I think it is fine.

Since this UI grows out from your city, it affects where you place your city in the first place. Just looking at your current cities whose placement that haven't taken the UI into account won't do.

Sure but that gives a reasonable floor, I could already build rather a lot. So it needs to be ok to have a city working rather a lot of these. My guess would be it is very powerful but not better than the best civs. China is pretty unexciting currently

I used to live across the street from a siheyuan!

I can't say I follow the flavor but this is interesting and would be fun to play with. The UA giving food would naturally pair with a UI that gives culture/science. Getting 2 science + 3 culture (with WLTKD) from a tile in medieval era is no joke.

One of the reasons I love playing as Morocco is precisely because I can plan my cities according to the Kasbah placement. In this case it means no more than one coastal tile, ideally, and no mountain nearby. Same with the Mayans with forests/jungles. China with this UI would be a similar playstyle, and the more UI for as many civs as possible, the better IMO.

Am I missing somewhere the model is posted? I'm particularly interested in how it will look sprawled out from the city

This is just amazing. I hope it gets through but people may be confused and vote for UB or UW just because they think it's the only proposal for China. I still don't understand, like do we get a paper with just 1-60 number and yes and no box to check? :coffee:
They China unique components proposals are all counterproposals to each other. Only one can get implemented.

Yes, you get a physical piece of paper in the mail with a column of numbers 1 through 60 and circles next to them you have to color in. You then have to mail it back (postage not paid) along with a $5 processing fee. There's also no guarantee the machine reader will register your input, so we expect all votes to be +/- 25% off. If you live in a red state that bans mail-in ballots for election denial reasons, you don't get to vote at all.

In all seriousness: each sponsored proposal will get a corresponding thread in the main forum. If there are no counterproposals, the options will be Yea or Nay. If there are counterproposals, each one will be an option.

Voters will vote for every option they are okay with seeing in the mod (even contradictory options, like Yea and Nay), and most votes wins. This method is known as approval voting:

I sponsor the sql, text, and art changes
You will need to find a DLL modder to sponsor the DLL integration before this proposal is considered sponsored.

Current Siheyuan graphics. Hoping to do a bit of improvement to get them to line up more and merge with the tiles on the left and right.

This is where Mulan was living? Is it intended that it collides with buildings in the city? That looks odd.
