Courthouses and Police Stations

Does the police station actually lower the corruption? Game help states that it helps to reduce war weariness only? Am I missing smtg?

I haven't verified through testing, but it was supposed to have been changed in a patch to do both.

It does.

The roads/harbor/airport effect you report could be that you're looking at unhappy people being soothed by all those luxuries that are now being shared from the rest of your empire.

i remember one game, i was communist with about 4X the optimum # cities on a large map, ver 1.16 i believe. All corruption and waste was exceeding 50% in all cities and i did much better becoming a democracy so that my core cities would make up for the rest.

It seems that 1.21 has increased corruption and waste reduction techniques to 25% instead of 20%. Possibly rounded up instead of down. After playing so many games pre 1.21, i have found it much much more managable now.

Just some comments :)

Is it some kind of inevitability that on huge maps (like the one I'm playing on) your civ is destined to suffer horribly from corruption?

Yes.

The analogy to the U.S. is faulty. If the U.S. were to conquer North and South America and tried to run everything from Washington -- that would be an appropriate comparison. Generally, far flung, less advanced cities are net drains on the treasury, both in life and in Civ3. Most small cities will never have universities or airports or manufacturing plants. But if you can convince the bureaucrats in Washington to build a colosseum in my little town, bring it on!

Or was the attempt at cheating perpetrated when Al Gore tried to use the judicial process to validate incorrectly completed ballots by people who were too age-addled to know what to do?

That's a misinterpretation of democracy. Even age-addled people, or people who speak english poorly, or the illiterate, or even stupid, ignorant people have the right to vote and to have their votes counted. Indeed, that is the distinguishing characteristic of a democracy. The real issue in Florida, which has yet to addressed, is that thousands of minority voters were purged from the voter rolls and were turned away at the polls.

So to segue into the thread topic, corruption is certainly not non-existent in democracies. As my friends in law enforcement tell me, business is brisk.

Interesting you bring that up Zachriel, the US Civil Rights Commission was reviewing reforms to see if they deal with the irregularities yesterday.

You should be using the word adult- not people. Also, felons, parolees, and inmates have different rights depending upon the state. It should be standardized Nationally for National Elections.

oh, so its topical. I like Communism in the game :)
