Hello

The game crashes when I attempt to load a game or create a new one. I'm running v1.52 og the game on a fully update Win XP SP2 system.
The crash is a "Sid Meier's Civilization 4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."-box

The hardware is 1gb ram, 2.4ghz P4, Radeon9500 Pro graphics.

I've ripped the DVD on my laptop(Using Alcohol120) to play it on my desktopmachine(Which has no DVD-drive), and mounted it with Daemontools.

I'd rather not buy a DVD-drive for this machine, as I have no need for it(Besides to play Civ4, ofc)

What can I do to make the game work?

Catastrophic failure message appears on installation. This message appears on loading the 2nd disc. I am running a Sony VAIO, Pentium 4 at 2 gigahertz, and 480 megabytes of RAM. Windows XP Pro with SP2. There is plenty of hard disc space and I have benn able to run all Civilization versions in the past without problem. I have run the scan disk utility as well as the defragment utility to no avail. Any ideas?

The "Catastrophic failure " message indicates a bad set of discs - this issue has cropped up a few times in the last few days - suspect there was a bad production run some where. Would need a return to supplier for disc exchange or refund.

However in your case its likely a good thing as on the information above - it will not run anyway, your setup looks to be below the hardware specs for the game. Civ IV is a full blown 3D game and has significant hardware needs compared to past releases.

Note in particulr "Hardware T&L Support" ie a graphics card

If you post your dxdiag we can check it in detail for you re compatibility with the game

you must run it on a DVD drive with a legal DVD disc - we do not support ripped copies - there is a zero tolerence policy re piracy on this Board.

If you own the DVD buy a drive for it.

Zydor: It's not piracy. I'm allowed to make a working digital backup of any CD,DVD,whatever I buy (I live in Europe).

I know it's possible as I've seen prople play the game without the DVD.

But sure, I'll ask elsewhere or walk across the street and spend $50 on a drive.

I'm posting this so peop
It turns out that the 1.52 patch is the problem. After reinstalling the game I could start a game without any problems. Then I applied the 1.52 patch and the "ThemeParseLog.txt" file contained the following:

CIV IV 152 patch readme states it revmoved some fonts. Might want to email them and ask which ones and where are they in original so you can copy em before patch. Load the patch and then copy those files to the postpatched version.
