Wow... with the new patch I can play for 15-20 minutes instead of 5. Thank you FiraxisTake2 for releasing a patch that makes my gaming experience so much better.

My specs should be far above recommended:
-Athlon 3200+
-1024 Ram PC3600
-Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB
-SB Audigy Platinum EX
-240GB HDD

I'll give Firaxis ONE more chance to repair this game, then I'm gonna return it to the store and get my money back. Next time Firaxis/Take2 release a title I'm interested in, I'll download it from DC++ first to see that I'm not getting a beta, then MAYBE I'll buy it - if it's bugless, that is. CIV4 is not worth the cost of a blank DVD...

I have the same card with no probs.

Make sure your OS is up to date.

.net,xml, sp2 if xp

turn off all non ms services with no start up programs running in back ground.

Nuke your ati drivers using clean driver.

Load omega drivers 2675a.

Turn off writecombining, fast writes, and vsync(use the omega performance setting in 3d and opengl to shut off vsync.

Nuke the game and re-install with patch 109.

This is how my system is configured and i have no problems running this game.

Good advice Deon, I'll try loading the omega drivers, and turn off writecombing, etc..everything else you mention I've tried with no impact.

I have nearly an identical system to fredonor (except my 9600 isn't an XT), and play for about 20 minutes before crashing. The game runs incredibly smooth when it works; no slowdowns, no nothing..just mysterious CTDs. In the .ini I set the autosaves to every 2 turns and save manually very often.

If it wasn't such a fun game, I would throw it into the river here, or use it as a coaster. I'll hang onto it, waiting for Take2's support email (I called them last night, they said they'd email me some instructions in "15 minutes"..it's been nearly a day)..or waiting for an additional patch to smooth things out.
