I'm having repeated CTD's on large maps when the game tries to scroll accross the map or is directed (by a build, say) to a different city far from where I've been watching the main screen. This is about the only time I get crashes now, since the game has otherwise settled down. I suspect there is a programming problem in handling display memory and retrieving it quickly enough to suit the video card's demands. I'm not a programmer so I can't be sure of this but it just feels like the game trips over its own feet, so to speak. I assume it can be made more robust by some means, perhaps permitting a bit of a delay while the screen refreshes for the next display. The bug reports are being generated from these CTD's (and they were not from earlier ones.) The in-game slowdowns are gone, thank goodness.
I also got some more stability using the Blue Marble terrain set but I finally forced a crash even with that when I tried zooming out for a planet view. I don't blame the terrain mod, since it actually let me play many more turns without problems than did the stock terrain.
I welcome comments, questions and educated guesses...
