What are generally some of the best beliefs? Beliefs that work really well with a certain victory type but also if you think that there is a belief that's so good that it works with any victory type. Obviously they are dependant on what civ you are playing as well and if you are going wide/tall etc.

Cooperation is probably the best belief. Does well in the early game and scales. Works for tall and wide.

Diligence for Tradition. Inspiration for Progress. Those cover main weaknesses.
Funny, diligence is my top pick for progress. Inspiriation for authority because you get yields for border growth.

Council of elders is really good too, I like taking this and using the science and hammers it gives to build Hagia Sophia to enhance. This lets you spread religion a lot, while still enhancing quickly

For founder I took holy law, divine inheritance and hero worship latly and found them all decent.
I then allways picked Inspiration blindly in my last games But maybe I should overthink that after reading the comments :D

Jesuit Education is my pick for best reformation, the last 2 games the AI that snagged it was keeping up in science for a long time

I find Defender of the Faith to be one of better beliefs for wide. You can benefit from the yields very early as they are on walls and castles and you have a pretty strong combat bonus in your own lands and vs other religions.

Yeah defender is strong if want to turtle. Imagine combining it with the great wall and Hi. Castle :

I've been quite a fan of Mosques. It has decent science for the early game, and gives you lots of culture in the late game. Not to mention getting near permanent golden ages in the late game is not too difficult.

I also really like Orders, its like an instant wall for your newly conquered or settled cities. Also, since gold buying units got nerfed, it is much harder to have all your units come from one city. Orders allow all your units to have Morale.

In fact, these are my two follower beliefs most of the time.

I play Marathon/Huge so yea I default to Defender of the Faith no matter my approach. I like Knowledge Through Devotion too.

Little bit of a necro but 1 world 1 faith is really good because religion is a 0 sum game. You get a TON of world congress support, and your opponents don't get real benefits. Also lets you take away from opponents all game.

Honestly all the reformation beliefs are really good.

yeah, for the grace of god for example bags you a lot of extra GP if you spread it around late game.

Lately I've been going gaga for council of elders. That thing is a wonder generating machine. My crusade as Spain netted me an extra 6000 hammer and science for my holy city in my last game.

Not to hijack the thread, but what pantheon beliefs do you all think are best after the most recent changes?

I am loving Sun God (or God of the Sun, can't remember). If I start with a couple wheat near my capital, I take this almost every time. It provides a lot of flexibility. Working one wheat tile can provide as much as 8 or 9 food with a granary! Not only does that allow a city to grow extremely fast if you can handle the happiness hit, it can also give you the flexibility to work production or cultural tiles without stifling growth since you only need one or two wheat tiles to feed the entire city. It also turns the granary into a fantastic building. Since the granary is unlocked in the first technology tier, you can pick Sun God and still get a religion even if you don't have much wheat. I'm surprised that I haven't heard more discussion about this because I think it is a fantastic pantheon that can really change up my early game strategy.

I like it too. The faith is pretty good. I would guess that some players fall into a trap of not taking it if they don't have many floodplains

Pantheon wise I like sun god if I got wheat, purity if I have lakes.

My go to is fertility, it’s good in any situation.

Ancestor worship is pretty good, I use it a decent amount
