Getting tired of the standard civilization 3 music? I've got some suggestions with which to replace the files in the \sounds\build\ directory (the music).

Ancient Era:

Xenogears - One who bares fangs at god
Xenogears - Emotions (The world map theme)
FFIX - Oeilvert
FFIX - The Four Medalions
FFVIII - Roses and Wine

Middle Ages:

FFII - Red Wings (Orchestrated)
FFIII - Overworld (first)
Dragon Warrior - Overworld (Orchestrated, NOT NES synth)
Chrono Cross - Main Theme
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Indrustrial Age:

Red Alert 2 - Fortification
Metal Gear Solid - Main Theme
FFVIII - Movin'
Terminator 2 - Main Theme
Front Mission 3 - Defensive War

Modern Age:

Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn - GDI Credits
Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Heroism
The Matrix - Lobby Scene
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - Intro Movie Theme
FFX - Auron

Post your own too!

Are these .wav files or what? On my computer they show up as "Winamp media files" which usually means wavs but I have Windows ME so I can't tell - there's no file-extension editing allowed.

I would suggest some techno for the modern age to get in the mood, such as "Porcelain" or "Hymn" by Moby, "Halcyon & On & On" by Orbital, and "Keep Hope Alive" by the Crystal Method.

They are actually MP3 files. Though, the folder with the music for the ancient age has some wav files which seem to be cuts from the MP3s. I don't know what the game uses them for.

I usually just play with the sound off and winamp in the background, myself, but if I had to choose a song to put in the background for Civ 3, I'd put in Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. At the very least, you won't have any more problems with the background music looping too often on you. :p

I can't really spout off a laundry list of CRPG backrounds to go along with it, as I don't really get into most of the CRPGs after FFVII (FFIV owns them all, so why bother playing them? ;)...though I wish my brother would give my PSX back so I can buy and play the Chrono* games and FF tactics...and Dragon Warrior VII), so my best advice is to just turn all sounds off and just play whatever suits your mood at the moment from Winamp

Oh that Opening Music in Wild Arms 2, its a crappy game but that music is very catchy and I like it, Hell I haven't heard it in over a year and I still got the tune in my head.

The game imposes the wav files in and around the mp3s for customization. This way, the game never ever has the identical music clips.

Has anyone figured out how to add in your own music using this method? I have a mod I would like to try this with.
