so i dont know how much this is a bug or what. But when another civ declared war on me my defense pact with my friend gets dropped...yes he does declare war, but then there is a resolution to get him out of the war the next turn which nullifies the idea of the defense pact. Either way i dont see it being right

A typical example of religions power i think.
Did he have some cities of same nationality as your enemy?

When the pope dictates the paper words go out the window..

thats how its always been when u declare war on someonee else but not when they declare war on you.

Thats how its always been.

Can someone else confirm this? I mean when neither of the DP parnters attack, but someone attacks you or your DP partner...

I recalled that DP remained if someone attacked you or your friend (with whom you had DP). As in this case, neither of the DP -partners attack, but someone else attacks one of them; boom, DP still gets removed. This shouldn't happen IMO.

I mean, it sounds illogical

1) it breaks ability to get PA, don't you need 40 turns of DP (or war against same enemy)? or do the turns "collected" during peaceful PA carry on for the war-turns?
2) what if someone another 3rd declares you soon? You no more have DP, so you alone will be warring against that 3rd civ, while your (former) DP partner wars only the original attacker...
3) In real life, "Defensive Pacts" do not get nullified if someone attacks your friend.

Asking for some clarification, because I honestly think it didn't work like this originally... or did it?

DP is simply defence pact, it's like a single use ticket :) it's not good that it's terminated with war.
imo there could be something like Military Pacts, better than DP (and comes later) cause it last until you'll cancel it, also you can accept it during war but you/your pact mate will declare war to the opponent
