Another useful thing from Civ5 that mysteriously disappeared in Civ6 ... at a glance statistics on population, military yield, territory size, yields, and relative ranking compared to other civs.

Is this something that's too much to ask for?

It is disappointing that each Civ game seems to offer less and less information about your civilization's statistics. :(

You can find most of these stats in the victory screens and deduce even more from the great person tab. I would agree that if these data are going to be available (and that's very much a debatable point, they do obsolete much of the gossip system) they should be in a more easily readable/sortable form.

I like the demographics screen just because I want to know useless things like "how many people are actually living in my empire".

I actually prefer for that translation not to be there. It leaves more ambiguity about what a population point represents or how big a tile is, which is necessary for the game to make sense on different map sizes and types. And many of these demographics, "literacy rate" and "approval rating", for instance, were never well calibrated and probably never could be well calibrated. Civ is a game that relies heavily on abstraction, so I think it's better for the demographic information to retain that abstraction.

I know that, for Civ 5, literacy rate depended on how much of the tech tree you went through, and approval rating was 80% +3% per happiness point you had at the time, which imo was a nice info too.

That said, I had a lot of fun in a Civ 4 game recently where I managed to get like 6 or 7 luxery resources without having to fight wars over it, and then just checking demography every few turns to compare my population with that of the AI's... At some point I had more than triple the number two. I mean, it isn't actually useful or realistic, but it's fun. And that's what games are supposed to be about, right?

I'm not entirely decided about the Demographics.

While I enjoyed them as a fun depiction of my civ, they have also been a very potent tool of espionage.

I could always look up if someone was doing a significant military buildup even if I had no means to actually spy on their territory. Or I knew exactly who was going to outproduce or outgrow me so I could send my military and apply negative growth modifiers before it was too late to do something about them.

Some of that info is still available through the who's winning screen, especially military might. But it always struck me as odd that I had this detailed knowledge about the situation of all my opponents without doing anything about it.

I wouldn't mind the demographics to come back but I also wouldn't weep if it stayed gone for good.

I also miss being alerted to the fact that a city can fire on a target within range.

With one hand Sid giveth and with the other he taketh away. :(

IIRC from Civ2 there was a screen that gave you a running tally of how many enemy units you'd killed and lost, and the type of each unit. I love those kind of stats as it immerses me in the gameplay, knowing interesting details like how many soldiers I have, how many died in each battle. The fact that nowhere in Civ6 do you know how many people are in your empire is truly sad.

I'd be fine with those statistics only being available when you finish the game, but I'd still like them to come back. :(
