Dear fellow players,
It have been mentioned in a number of occasions that Armies produced by Militray Academy are more effective that ones built with great military leader. However, I did not find any difference in their effectiveness: neither in hitpoints, nor in special abilities (like radar or blitz). This question is also omitted in the "academy" in the forum.
Did anybody see the difference?

The only difference is if you have a barracks in your MA city. Then it produces veteran armies. The only possible advantage of a veteran army would be if the army experience level is used to determine retreat % chance.

...thus leading to question, can armies be promoted from regular to veteran?

Rumor has it that if all the units in the army are elite, it can get promoted. But that's just a rumor...

I usually fill my armies with leaderproducing elite units but I have never seen any promotion of the army. Of course reg or veteran units in the army can get promoted.

There's no difference at all. Armies built in a Military Academy within a city without barracks will be a professional (regular) army and if it does have barracks will be a veteran army. MGL's always produce professional (regular) armies. The only difference is in the name. There are no elite armies per se.

Well, there is a subtle difference. Before you build the MA, your leader generated armies have attack and defense bonuses equal to the sum of each unit's attack or defense strength divided by 6. After MA is built, the bonus is the sum divided by 4. However, once MA is built the new bonus immediately applies to all standing as well as future armies.

One thing though is that 'Veteran' Army sounds cooler than 'Regular' Army!
 :crazyeye: Of course you could rename them veteran anyway :mischief: .

No, u cannot rename them like this. Prefix "Regular" remains. And I never saw army promoted:( At end of game I usually have 30-40 armies, and even filled with Elites, they never got promoted

I play on Demigod, always huge maps, always archipelago, 60% water. Usually my games end with domination victory around 1600-1800. In my last game, being Japan, I produced 76 MGLs(48 turned to armies,6 armies lost), before getting Flight and Motorized Transportation, but still nad only 45 % of the land and my strongest rival had each one around 500-600 units at the moment. I can post save file. If u are not militarist, u usually get twice less MGLs, bcs u had twice less elites most likely. I'm strict warmonger, ALWAYS at war with someone, and I stay in monarchy until I get communism.

About cities - I dont know how many I have usually, but many:) I use cxxc placement. In this manner core cities are able to produce 50-60 shields(factory, plant) which is far than enough. Btw, very common situation is, in early game, I dont have enough cities to produce next army, so I dont attack with elites, until MGLs rushes aqueduct or something usefull in reasonable place.

Here is how it looks like:

This also shows army of Maya which arent still touched with my guns. Beside this, there are 102 Mayan guerillas which arent shown, bcs I cut their rubber supplies :satan:

Rather amazing! Thanks all! I did notice before that there might be "regular" armies filled with veteran units, and "veteran" armies filled with regular units (I prefer this, since movement and blitz is more important for army than a solid hit power!), but I have never thought about reasons beyound this.

Thanks!

Name them the 'Regular Elite ARMY'! :mischief:

On Diety? :goodjob: You are one good player (warmonger) ;) . That is a
ton of armies  .

I bet on Deity will result even more MGLs, where each of them pays its price many times. If u master warmongering strategy, no war can tear u apart, bcs u are always prepared for war. I found piecefull way to win more challenging than military, but boring.
