Domestic Discussion: Maximizing Our Golden Age

Donovan - Actually, Valhalla isn't such a good example, as it only really has two more squares to use and those are sea tiles (both used at size 9). The three coastline tile by Naerva will by used by Naerva and the two grasslands SW of Valhalla will be used by Kuhkaff once they are mined. Valhalla could use the SW grasslands until Kuhkaff was large enough to use them, or I suppose this could work if we turned the three extra workers into taxmen, but are the extra 3gpt worth the workers?

Naerva will grow to as size twelve and be able to use all its tiles. Its shield count will reach21 with no other improvements done. Valhalla, unless it gets an Offshore Platform will not gain in shield strength. If it does get an OSP, then it will only match Naerva at 21spt in total shields. Of course if Naerva got the same OSP, then it would go up to 24. These are total figures, before we add in Factories (both will build one now), Nuclear Power Plants, whatever. So I guess what I'm saying is Naerva would work better in your program than Valhalla, although Valhalla is still a strong candidate.

Cyc,

I will take a look at save again. Initially, I thought we should road and mine those tiles for Valhalla since it could really provide commerce. I was hoping Kuhkaff could mine the other hills for laborer placement so Valhalla could use the tiles you speak of.

I will check out Naerva again, too. Valhalla and Morgana were my best, closest examples of how this plan could work, but thanks for correcting my miscalculation.

Initially, that was my thinking also, and I would have agreed with you totally had I not checked the save. Those cities are packed so closely together that tiles are limited. But the Province will still do exceptioally well.

Cyc, this plan was meant for short-term benefit. However, you are correct....Valhalla can only use 3(my count at last save) sea tiles; 4 if you are kind enough to use the sea square 2 spots NE for Naerva to free one up for Valhalla.

You see, Naerva doesn't even have an aqueduct yet, and I wouldn't recommend using our Golden Age to build one now. I can send a worker there to get it to Size 6 and would recommend using the unroaded forest to maximize Naerva's production. I would then request that Naerva either exclusively build Riflemen(we need some cities for this to offset the Pike disbands. If you prefer, you can build a Factory there.

Let me know what you think.

DZ- I have already posted my instructions for the next t/c. Did you get a chance to read the post in the Golden Age poll?

I see your point, I was thinking long term and your were talking GA. Not a problem. Naerva's Factory will take all GA, and then build an Aqueduct. Valhalla can use all the sea tiles in its area. (I think that's 4). So go ahead with Valhalla and don't waste any workers on Naerva until the Aqueduct is in..

Golden Age Plan -- Update

The following orders were carried out for the first 5 turns of our Golden Age:

City Growth
Workers and Settlers joined the following cities:

Valhalla - Size 7 ---> Size 10
Morgana - Size 7 ---> Size 9
Pensacola - Size 7 ---> Size 10
Tlaxcala - Size 9 ---> Size 12
Cuernavaca - Size 6 ---> Size 10
Strider's Haven - Size 7 ---> Size 8
Kells - Size 9 ---> Size 11

Pikemen

We are down to 30 pikes. Most were disbanded for workers per this plan. However, two were disbanded in Bremershaven to build a Bank(otherwise the city would have overproduced by 30 shields). Also, we were able to upgrade 3 well-placed pikemen for 100g each.

Riflemen are being produced at a slightly slower pace, but CivGeneral and I took care that all cities were left defended

Workers

As President Chieftess has chosen to use almost all foreign workers to grow our cities, we now have an almost even number of foreign and domestic workers for the first time. We have increased our domestic workforce from 30 to 49!

90% research

We are 3 turns away from Electricty. And looking at the save, we can drop our research to 60% and still discover it in 4 turns. I will be starting a discussion on this shortly.

Factories

We now have 3 Factories and 1 Coal Plant! With a Coal Plant and Factory located in Kyoto, that city is pumping out a whopping 70 shields per turn! This output will allow us to quickly build all necessary cultural and commercial improvements in Kyoto before embarking on two concecutive Great Wonders. A discussion will be opened on this as well.

I am looking at the save to see what our next exploits should be. I plan on future growth for Cuernavaca, Kuhkaff, Shimonoseki, Morgana, Padmativa and more. Stay tuned.
