DVD Burning help

k now, heres the problem. I have a video file, its a kids show that I want to burn on dvd for my son. I have it on the PC and its an avi file. I want to be able to burn it, onto dvd so i can put it into my dvd player at home and he can watch it.
Sounds like a fairly simple problem right? wrong, ive got 24 dvd coasters here cause well my 300 dvd player is a piece of junk, wont play divx files.
What im looking for is someway to burn it, so I can use it. Oh and all those coasters, ive tried playing them in other dvd players too, on my laptop, ps2, and neighbours houses,,,yes plural.

Nothing works. HELP?

I am using Nero, and im not sure of the model but someone please make this pain go away!

Your Divx AVI file needs to be converted to an MPEG2 DVD compliant file which will then play on your settop DVD player.

In Nero, is there a 'create new DVD' or 'author new DVD' option? Look for this at which point you will add your DIVX AVI file into it and it should convert it to MPEG2 and burn it for you.

How exactly have you been burning so far?

Just make sure you provide more info on your system, version of nero and process in which youve been burning as this then helpes to solve your problem.

yeah i did post it all there and got very little usefull info. but i know theres a ncreat new dvd and then it makes me edit it, set up the buttons and stuff, Nero is the most recent one, i just updated it. Also there shouldnt be any problems with the PC, its brand new, P4 3.6 1G ram. XP Pro, so I should be ok from a hardware standpoint.

Your hardware is definately up to scratch as I have done it on lesser machines.
I dont know about freeware programs but I have had luck using ULEAD video studio 9 which has converted DIVX to MPEG2 and I have been able to burn it and it plays on players no problem.

Sorry I cant be of much help, trying to get a copy of different editing/authoring software is my best guess as to where to go from here.
