Eminem T-Shirts Spark Deadly Fight

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - A Turkish man was stabbed to death after hawking T-shirts depicting U.S. rap superstar Eminem (news - web sites) because a man mistook the sales pitch as an insult to his mother, Turkish newspapers said Tuesday.

A knife fight broke out in an Istanbul suburb after 19-year-old Dilaver Akkurt told T-shirt vendor Hayrettin Demir his mother was named Emine and lived in the area, Hurriyet newspaper said.

"Eminem" means "my Emine" in Turkish.

Akkurt warned Demir to stop shouting "Eminem" and to cease sales of the clothing inscribed with the star's name and image.

Police believe Demir, who died at the scene from multiple stab wounds, was killed by a friend of Akkurt's in the brawl in Istanbul's Kucukcekmece district, Hurriyet said.

Police have detained Akkurt, who was being treated in hospital for wounds, and are still searching for Demir's killer, the newspaper said.

Damn! (I know I shouldn't be laughing, but I can't help myself)

Maybe the stress and frustration of trying to pronounce and spell
Kucukcekmece drove the man berserk.

You'd be surprised how many actually listen to rap. I myself was into it some time ago (not too long)... ;)

Oh, and Eminem is more of hip-hop-dance than rap.

he's hip-hop but not dance, the two are totally different. whats suprising isn't that they listen to hip-hop but that they listen to a fairly recent artist. If I was Akkurt I would have bought my mom one of the shirts.

I am surprised to see this tread. I was gonna write it yesterday but I thought nobody would believe it. Anyway, it is not moral but I laughed till tears came down:lol:

Turkey has many rap listeners because of MTV. The most favourite ringtone in Turkey is 50 Cent-In da Club.

A funny note, Turkey`s highest selling of all time is called `Oy Oy Eminem`:D (3 million records in the 80`s)

It's just another example of violence caused by hip-hop & rap. Don't you think it's time to put a stop the reign of corruption caused by this evil music?

Sarcasm, right?

He's not Hip-Hop! He is pop. The two are totally different.

I really don't see anything offensive about the shirt. Sounds like another stupid excuse for the idiots who can't take responsibility for their own actions.

Yeah, it's sarcasm. I don't like rap, but I don't believe it's evil.

Those Harry Potter occult training manuals on the other hand...
