the world should thaw more slowly, IMHO. I chose end of winter, because I though it would slow down expansion and exploration, and allow the raging barbarian world half a chance.

But it seems to warm up too fast. After 100 turns all the ice is gone. 100 turns isn't much in the beginning.

You might want to give FlavourMod a chance. I've added an extdended End of Winter option to it. And there is much more to it than it only being longer.
