Recon units gain experience when opening a goody hut or finding a natural wonder. I would like to be able to give this effect to non-recon units.
After some tinkering, it appears that PROMOTION_CLASS_RECON grants the unit this ability, but I can't find anywhere in the xml files that grants it. Making a scout PROMOTION_CLASS_MELEE stops it gaining experience this way, and giving other units PROMOTION_CLASS_RECON enables them to gain experience this way (even workers can gain experience and earn promotions this way, if made into recon units).
I tried replacing all the promotions in PROMOTION_CLASS_RECON with the promotions in PROMOTION_CLASS_MELEE, and it retained the ability to gain experience by exploring. I do not want to alter the existing recon units, however.
Does anyone know where I can get to the effect that causes a scout to gain experience by exploration, and how I can apply it to other unit classes?
