fails to initialize...

I have intel 82810E graphics driver. is that my problem...load up screen says something like 'cannot created desired fullscreen mode'. Any help is greatly appreciated.... especially if it will let me play....

could it be that you edited the ini file to higher resolution than what your graphics / display supports? try lowering screen resolution. try playing in windowed mode

I, too, have had problems loading the game. When it's intializing, it stops about 3/4 of the way through and says 'Check your video settings'...'DirectX installation failed', and 'Can't acheive desired full-screen mode'.

What am I supposed to look for, in fixing this? This is dreadfully agggravating.

the patch fixes this initialization issue, I had the same thing and when I looked on the support section on the Civ4 main site it directed to the 1.54 patch, but its now the 1.61 patch, but it includes all previous patches as well. the patch fixed it for me.

I have ATI though and it was a somewhat different initialization issue, but it couldn't hurt to try.

adaptrid: 0
deviceid: 3

width and height are what I have... the rest I don't even know what the heck they are...

I loaded the patch, and nothing changed.

My parameters come up almost identical to yours. Same width and height. Same flag. Al thsame except for hwnd...What the....?????

How do I set up 'Windowed' mode?

FullScreen = 0

maybe one of my problems is just the age of my computer... running 1.1ghz and video cards and math processors just not up to the task.. even my sons' 2.2ghz is jerky and slow on this game..... sad..... love civilization.....

I downloaded a datasheet about your graphics card from http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/datashts/290676.htm. It seems that this card does not support 32 bit color quality. Civ4 probably requires 32 bit color quality. Dead end.
