i just managed to win FoR, and found out it isnt that difficult, as i thought trying it for the first time
i played as the franks on regent and waited a long time, building up a very strong army and some infrastructure
by time i attacked rome (around 75th turn of 150), they had no chance at all an fell quite soon
when western rome was destroyed ( unfortunately the celts managed to destroy the 8th city) the whole barbarian world was at war with them, so it was no problem to destroy eastern rome soon after ( even faster than western rome, and this time it was me who finished them)
after that i decided to quickly destroy the anglo saxons ( their troops were somewhere before where constantinople had been)
i finished them of within 3 or four turns, but they had allied with the visigoths
so i had to go for them (in alliance with the vandals)
it was a hard war, my troops were not positioned well, and after i had won i had lost five cities
i then went for the celts, to quickly reach the 35 000 vps
they had already started to settle on the continent, so it was no problem to destroy their weak colonies, and the game ended while the vandals were attacking me in the west, not strong enough to win a war, but taking some cities and destroy me would have been possible

how do you manage this scenario?
post pictures!
and what the hell does plague do, except for killing one citicen or a unit very seldom?

Ah, this is going to be an interesting thread, just like Final map of Rise of Rome.

I started Fall of Rome just the other night, so I've not come very far (and I think I'm going to start over). But I will closely watch this thread and see what maps and stories you people are going to post.

Heres mine as the celts. Eastern Rome was going to be destroyed next turn(and not too soon, they had 34420 VP), as they only had lost 7 cities already but my VP count got up to over 35K.

to be the only one left was a pure lucky bi-product :)

i was trying a variant, ie i tried to win without eliminating myself a single roman or byzantine city, that worked using diplomacy (dogpiling the Romans and Byzantines but not getting involved) and timing (don't do it too early but don't leave it too late either), also along the way the huns eliminated the sassinids and another AI who i cannot remember was eliminated not my me, so 4 eliminations were not mine

edit - ironically i think this conquests is better played at a higher level as the AI don't produce fast enough to help eliminate the Romans / Byzantines at the lower levels leaving the human to try to do everything, emperor for this conquests is much easier than epic emperor imo

Bah... I was just playing as the Anglo-Saxons. I killed first the Franks just to get them out of my way... that took way too long, so the Byzantines got to 35000 VPs a few turns before I destroyed off the Romans and just before my 2x 20 HP armies got to their western-most city. :(

GrandpaCat, pretty much the same thing happened to me. I took the Franklands, built a decent, productive empire and took out the Romans when i felt ready. But i'd ignored the Byzantine VP count... i couldn't get to them in time... :(

Hey, aren't Heavy Cav Armies great now?!? :D

I made a mistake in my original post... it was just AFTER I had killed the Romans that the Byz won. Other than that, I had the same strategy as you. Both of my armies were full of four elite warlords... maybe next time I will have one with four heavy cav to get to the east quicker.

Fall of Rome was to me both insanely hard and incredibly easy. I finally beat it last night as the light green guys (never remember their name). I kept loosing to the Byzantine because I could not get to them very easy (I played Celts until my last game). They have so many VP locations that they must be killed right off. This can be difficult.

I also found that by being a dirty liar you can kill people very easy. Offer HUGE gpt deals for tech with Rome & Byzantine and then just declare war to get out of paying. Set up you military (Calvary) to hit multiple cities and break a peace treaty. You can kill a neighbor before they can do anything back to you. All ways Dogpile a civ. They die very quickly this way.

Once I was able to knock out Byzantine, the rest was easy. FYI, I played on Monarch.

Just won this one as the Anglo-Saxons (Blue). I made sure to make the Franks my friends, since they started right on top of me and I wanted to build up a bit before getting into a war. Researched straight for the Scourge of God wonder, then Warlords, and then went after Western Rome (enlisting the Franks as help).

After I knocked off Western Rome, I concentrated on Eastern Rome (again with help). The Romes have to be wiped out first, because they have all those VP locations.

Once East Rome went down (thanks to the Celts, of all civs), I took on the Vandals, then the Franks, and finally the Visogoths (? er, the purple guys). The other civs that were wiped out weren't my fault (looking innocent); killing the purple guys put me over the top VP-wise.

Overall, a fun scenario. :)
