So I'm playing on Monarch level as Carthage, mid-industial age. I'm about to build tanks and invade the entire continent pretty soon. Which government should I choose? I know changing to fascism will lose me population points and any city I conquer will basically be useless, no culture, I'll have to wait a while until a popular majority has been assembled and corruption and all that. But I'm worried that If I choose Republic WW will be a pain the ass.

The first time I played C3C, I had the same idea. Big mistake. Fascism is a government for the AI only. Has anyone claimed Universal Sufferage? Building that would be a much better solution to your WW. As would getting more luxuries. WW really isn't that bad if you have luxuries and markets.

Actually, the worst thing about fascism is the lack of cash-rushing. You don't really appreciate the ability to rush until it's gone. Communism has the same problem but makes up for it with low corruption. Fascism, on the other hand, has no redeeming value you couldn't get with monarchy.

Wrong question....

The question is Communism vs. Republic. And the answer to that is that it depends on your current and hoped-for sizes. Your infrastructure (courthouses, police stations) in core cities is also an issue, as well as your ability to build the Secret Police Headquarters quickly. The other issue is surviving the anarchy period.

Fascism is a non-starter.

Just what I was going to say. If you're empire is pretty large, build up Courthouses in your core cities, and switch over to Communism A.S.A.P. Communism is IMO the strongest government in the game because of the ability to not have a core, but to have your whole empire be maybe not quite as productive as your old core but be able to produce in one turn less time is tremendous. If you have 40 cities, thats 40 tanks or 40 artillery in say 5 turns (5 is an overestimate, I've had many cities producing in 2 or less with Commie), with any other government it would probably be 8-10 tanks or artillery every 3-4 turns.

I thought that was a good thing about fascism. Since you need to kill the people that are in the city and grow your own people in newly acquired cities, you need pop rush. Crack the whip and let the culture start.

Fascism is only good if you have very few cities and need a large military (to get more cities). Other than unit support, it sucks.

I once used Fascism in a conquest game for the reason of super-workers and high unit support. I was backed into a corner more or less by the run-away AI. Once I massed an overwhelming number of artillery and some gurilla/infantry to cover them I began my push into the beast. Not sure if being fascist helped me any more than commie might have but I had no ww problems and I didnt have to worry about my economy while i was waging a massive war of attrition with the AI.

Also keep in mind this is a regent game. :mischief:

WW is not a large problem with US, but I don't know if you have it. WW will be better if opponets don't have Infantry or Tanks. Fascism=Bad, Republic=Good, Commie=Very,Very,Very Good, if at war for a long period of time. Switch, Build SPHQ, go :hammer:, then dominate and become :king: . If you plan for a long war commie with SPHQ is better, but if you are going to have a quick drive and :hammer: war, stay in Rep as the WW won't be too bad if you bump up the Lux slider.
I guess I sort of rambled, oh well.
