Fatal error and crash to desk

After the patch 1.09 was installed I am able to play on a standard map 6 Civ until about 80 turn left in the game Then there is a sudden black screen with mouse movable and the music playing Then there is a Window fatal error stating the Civ 4 has to close I attempt to get out of the game Igo to a distorted desktop and have to Reboot This event happens faster on a large or huge map I have all the spec I have a Dell 8200 with Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ 1 gig of memory Virtual memory 2.5 256Nvidia 5700 card with the latest driver from there Website aTurtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card latest Driver Direct X9.0c I will enclose my saved game to see if others are having the same problem

I have exactly the same problem. The error seems to come completely at random - I save every turn and the CTD occurrs at different points every time.

I am running a Athlon 64 3000 with a gig of RAM and Geforce FX5200 with 256 meg.

This problem has worsened since installing the patch.

As an aside, the distorted desktop is at a lower resolution. Do you think resolution could be a problem?

The problemis becoming obvious and we need a computer guru to figure it out As the game progresses the computer slows up as it goe to the next unit on the map It must redrw the picture because as time goes on there is increasing pictures of the bare map without the units or cities and suddenly the map is normal It then suddenly crashes to the desktop in some bizarre resolution with all kinds of distorted colors requiring a reboot

It's infuriating. I was hoping the patch would make it better, but it hasn't and the problem gets worse later in the game. The game is pretty much unplayable now.

I've got a Dell w/ a 1.9 GHz P4, 768MB RAM, and a 256MB nVidia GeForce FX 5700 VE video card w/ the very latest drivers installed. I know it's not my computer since I can play BF2 (which is a memory-consuming beast) just fine.

If someone's got a fix, I'd love to know. Until then, my Firaxis will be the object of my wrath for putting out such a flawed game.

I agree, I have a similar issue, it's really quite annoying that before the 1.09 patch I didn't have this problem.

I had crashes to desktop before the patch, but now it's only blue screens
I have an Athlon 3000+, 1Go of RAM and a 6600 128Mo. It happens near the end of the game.
