Persians, Huge (I only play huge), Space Race, 8 other civs
It's certainly the most exciting way to do it. I was in a solid 3rd place going into the last 12 turns. I was a smigeon ahead of the other 2 teams in building my ship though. I attacked them with everything offensive I had, and placed all my defensive units + fighters on patrol to kill anything that entered. I made peace with both of them 1-2 turns before my ship was complete. Massive amounts of happiness. ME
It was a standard map. I was India, and I had culturally-linked start locations on, so I ended up on the map with Japan, China, and Korea. I crush Japan, crush China, and then go to war with Korea three times. I connect my huge empire through railroads and move in a freakload of cavalry and finally take half their empire and poof, domination victory.
America
Tiny
1 opp. (England)
Cultural vic.
Modern age. Military twice as large as Lizzy's.
Nukes
Lizzy was stuck in the early ind.
I had about 60% of te mainland, and 80% of the other island, 100% of the tiny island.
Small pangeae, 4 (or 5) enemy civs, cheiftain. I was plodding along, happily building, etc, when, all of a sudden, the game ends. I had won with a cultural victory.
What's interesting is that I inadvertantly won with cultural victories a fair number of times when I initially began playing. Since then, I've wondered how I accomplished so many CVs, since it seems to be a fairly difficult task now.
I just made the switch from Civ 2... I was used to dominating King level and winning space races there. I took the book's advice and downgraded two levels (chieftan) for my first game. I was Carthage, standard map, 7 civs... got bored once I got the hang of the game mechanics so I built the UN and got meself elected. Trying for a Regent spaceship now...
Space Race, I can;t even remember what Civ I was... Possibly Germans as I was a newbie then and had this impression that they were an awesome civ to play as.
EDIT: Also I was playing on mere Chieften. Heh. I remember I had crushed every civilization in the world except my friends, The Romans, who I felt attached to. So instead of destroying them completely I took every one of their cities except the capital and sorrouded it with troops and sent a nuke at it. I decided to let it sit until I won by Space Race. Thats when I concluded that Chieften is way to easy. Heh.
