After reading the chat log, I noticed the suggestion that Fox's Nest build a university rather than knights. It seems this place of higher learning could be completed in 7 turns. I have Fox's Nest queued to build knights until further notice, but would like to discuss this. I would like an analysis from our military department regarding how important it is that we continue building units in Fox's Nest. I would also propose that, if the consensus is that our military situation is stable, that we build a bank in Fox's Nest immediately after the university. Comment?

We must have just missed each other, I just posted a request in the Istar thread for a University! I will copy my comments here:

As a concerned citizen of Fox Nest, (with a somewhat biased interest in culture), I would like to submit a request to our governor that we build a University in our beloved Capital. Our understanding of these new forms of structured Education has made many of the books of our Great Library irrelevant. I would like to see Fox Nest continue to lead the world in learning and culture, but I fear that we are missing a golden opportunity by not building a University as soon as possible.

Fox Nest is our most productive city, in both learning and taxes. I think we need to put our improvements where we can get the greatest benefit.

I tend to agree, Justus, but I would like to make sure our military situation is sound first.

Knights, bank or university in Fox Nest? Why all of course!:D It's just a matter of which to do first. I agree that knights take priority unless the General has enough for now. I would suggest the university before the bank. Our gold situation seems good but we are not the tech leader yet!

Maybe, we could build one knight, then a university, then another knight, then a bank, at which point we could switch completely to military production.

I like Eyrei's suggestion but I as a Culture club member, think that it should be University, Knight, Bank, more knights.

I would like the input of the Military Department, was there an urgent need for the knights, or just general preparedness. In other words, what is the cost of waiting 7 turns for a knight? We know waiting 5 turns for the University would be 7x5=35 science. If there is an urgent need, I will gladly wait 5 turns, but if not, we could have educated knights!

I'm for a University there, & back to military production. I do not believe we are in great need of banks at this point, because we are driven by science.

One concern I wish to voice at least somewhere, is the fact that no cities are making musketmen. We also have 0 musketmen currently. We should be preparing for this. Saltpeter is connected now.

Pikemen->Musketman upgrade = 60 gold per. (Wish we had Leo's now...)

I believe we should go University, Bank, Knights. We are not at war, nor do I think we are likely to go to war soon. We must build our infrastructure. After these two improvements, there will be little else to build in Fox's Nest for a long time, so we will be able to focus on knights and eventually cavalry then.

Although I do not speak for the Mil. Dept., I do keep a keen eye on mil. affairs. I do not believe the demand for Knights is 'urgent', so there is probably room for mixing the production in FN along the lines suggested by eyrei.

One thing I just thought of: If we switch now and it takes seven turns, and it's, IIRC, 780AD, and, IIRC, turns currently take ten years, then the university will be built in 850AD, which mean it will achieve the cultural bonus at 1850AD, which, IIRC, is the beginning of one year turns, which, IMO, is mildly significant.

I CAN SPEAK AGAIN!!!

Sorry for the delay guys, but my internet connection at home went down yesterday and I haven't gotten it back up till about 5 minutes ago.

I grant the production change to a University, however afterwards I would like to see FN pump out a few more Knights before going to any more city improvements.
