well, i got the game when i was about 8, my grandma gave it to me.

Firstly, i didn't know what anything did, so i had a settler, and i pressed "s" and he went grey, so i was like "oh yeah, hes settling!"

in the same game, i also wasen't good at history, so when i heard that the spanish were building the colosus, i was freaking out, then when i saw that they had built it, i freaked more, i though it was giant that was going to come a beat all my guys up.

then about 5 games later, after the barberians took over my citys all the time, i decided i should defend them, only problem is, i didn't know you could fortify men inside them, so i built phalanxes allaround it, but then the barberians came on ship and took it over Neway... :-(

Very first game I played I noticed the AI building these "Wonders of the World" thingies.I decided maybe I should have one also.I picked the awesome wonder of Capitolization.Still waiting to finish it

When I saw thread title, I was ready to put about irrigating and all for that first city, rather than going on and establishing second city, but you two, you two are really funny.

Hehehe... Serves him right. You should never, and I mean NEVER listen to an Elvis Impersonator.

As for my own stupidity... I've had alot of fun with democracy. The first time I got it, none of my cities had ANY improvements, there was no irigation (didn't know about it) or roads. I jumped to democracy, and spent the remainder of the game in anarchy 'cause my cities just couldn't get happy.

Then, in a later game... once again in democracy, I tried to subvert an enemy city. I was given the option of doing it covertly (without incident) or with an incident. I went the cheap way. The citizens revolted, my government collapsed, and I couldn't get out of anarchy.

There you have it.

when i first started civ1 when i was about 8 also: i finally discovered irrigation and roads! before i ever built a city, i would irrigate all the squares and road them.
smile.gif
i didnt do to many dumb things in civ2 though...too much experience.

also, i didnt know how to move my guys diagonally! my brother was good though. i remember when he was taking stuff over once, all the land was covered in cannons. i was amazed. that was back when playing civ made me feel "special"

the dumbest thing i've ever done was when i first got civ2 back in 97' I got my first ever nuke! And i was like "Awesome! Die you Chinese punks! Die!" Well i moved in like 50 military units and they were all piled up around a chinese city and i nuked that same city killing all 50+ units of mine around it

Yeah, I've been bitten by that bug before.

And it hurts too. I've never done any super dumd things because when I started Civ 1 my friend played the game for/with me. He's not that great (I can kick his ass in MP) but he knew how to play. Although building 2 REALLY big cities is pretty bad. Another friend of mine build railroad ALL over the arctic and north or north america. So when Barbs came up (an boy did they ever) they all attacked at once because of the railroad. He lost a few cities in that game. Anyway. I DID do the 'nuke your own units' before

Never nuke a city,
not even once or twice.
The city will not like it,
and nuking isn't nice.

huh. This must be the funniest topic i've ever been in. I guess we're all just a bit stupid. When i first go the game, 4 years ago, it was the era of command and conquer and warcraft. I had no idea what turn based games were. I told a settler to build a city, and i waited. and waited. and waited. until i saw the "Press enter to end turn" thing-2 hours later.

Also, i thought that irrigation was a wonder or something, so when i first build one, i was like ohmigod i'm so good at this game.

Then i learned better, but i thought mines could be built over irrigation, so i spent 3000 years working on my first city, building irrigation, then mines, then irrgation,.......

i feel very sorry for you vladmir.
this thread is got a lot of laughs.

yeah VC, well my citys went into disorder when they were still budding, on cheiftain you don't get and unhappy cit untl aboujt 8. and i was wondering why it was happeing.
