While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.
(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

As stated in the G-Minor CCXV thread, this is the April gauntlet, for which I failed to post a thread. Same goes for this game - it's extended to 05/08/24, but if we need more time, please let me know.

i must say
the boreal map is way more challenging than i can remember...
i mean finding a spot for two three cities is no problem, however the other locations are just omg sh::t
could have gone conquered early i guess but was focused on getting the settlers out asap

good to have an army also ready cause at one stage someone will sneak attack - around the industrial era

very difficult to get cash if your religion didnt pick up with the tilthe because the ai rarely befriends you and even if it does its not that much cash to muse out of them..

didnt get a sub 200 win on this one, and i dont think ill go for another shot at it... just a map thats so unrewarding

Boreal Maps are often tough, but if you settle in the nice pocket or two that exist on the usual map, I think you you can do all right, especially since that means the AI civs have much tougher terrain to build on.

Having nearby civ(s) to conquer early is always key for me on Boreal, as their capital city terrain has to at least be decent. You are exactly right that is a lousy map such that there is usually only 1 or two reasonable spots for your own settlers to expand to, so I find conquering other capitals is paramount for a really good game on Boreal.

I managed to take out Honolulu by turn 31, build 2 expansion cities, and cooperate with Denmark to take out Delhi before T100. All cities were on river systems.
Taking out Honolulu before meeting other AI civs meant not getting the big warmonger penalty (which is why I especially geared for early conquest), and both Denmark and Morocco hated India, so conquering Delhi did not hurt me diplomatically. Able to stay friends with Denmark and Morocco throughout, which helps Sweden a lot.
