Okay...I am on Monarchy and attempting my first Conquest victory on Monarch difficulty. I am unsure of what ta do about India. I hate their darn elephants. Any recommendations? I am Persia. India is in my way to Spain who I have almost wiped out. They have one city left but I haveta go through India to get to it. I cannot get them in a MA or ROP Any ideas? Do certain civs do better in Monarchy?

Do you absolutely HAVE to go through India? Is there some alternate(albeit slower) Sea or Land route that goes around it?

Also, if there's other Civs besides India and Spain left, go after them until you get past the age of elephants.

Do you have a screenshot/save we can look at? If your military is stronger than India's, and it's all on your borders, you probably can wipe them out as you go. Put some spearmen or pikemen or muskets (whatever you have) in a stack of Immortals / your best offensive unit, and attack their cities.

Question...if I put a defensive unit in a stack of immortals this is my guess...instead of an immortal being attacked the defensive unit is always attacked first??

Depends on who has the highest defense rating, overall, taking every factor into account: hitpoints, fortification, defense value, and in a tie (like veteran spearman/swordsman) whichever costs fewer shields. This is generally the defender.

Why the one that costs less shields over the one that costs more? Shouldn't the one that costs more be a better defense u would think? At least I can beat Monarchy on other victory types reliably but Conquest is a lil tough.

That's only in a tie, like my example. One spearman, defense two, veteran, unfortified, on same square as one swordsman, also defense two, veteran, unfortified. Equal chances of survival, spearman is cheaper. Why would you want to lose the higher value unit?

You can also change your title a little bit by turning your spamming meter up and down if you are too impatient.

Don't think that's correct. AFAIK, this relates to the AI strategy flag: Defense, Defense/Offense, Offense.

For Mayans the top defender is Spear-JT-Sword/MDI.

@DocT: That would mean that a Pike would defend before a Samurai for the Japanese though...

Well, it sorts by Defense * Remaining HP first. So an elite sword would appear over a regular pike (10 > 9).

Of course. The flag or the cost,whatever is correct comes only into play in case of a tie (Musket and Samurai, for example).
