Game crashes when I try any scenario (either those that come with the game or a mod I download)

Whether it's me playing a scenario that comes with the game or one I have to download and install separately (like Dawn Of Civilization), either way, it automatically crashes without letting me play it. What is going on? I have uninstalled the game, deleted the cache, and reinstalled, but that didn't fix it. Since I have it on Steam, I have verified the integrity of the files, which didn't fix it. It's a Windows 11 home pc if that helps. It used to work, then it stopped working. What happened?

The default steam version is altered relative to the CD release, which basically all mods take as starting point. (IIRC that is for a multiplayer games over steam)

The CD release is available as a "beta", under the "betas" tab in steam you should select the original release.

Also sometimes steam can create quite long file paths, leading to them being to long for the system to handle. If it seems too long you might try to reinstall into a custom location with a shorter path.

It used to work, then it stopped working. What happened?
If the above does not work, since it did work at some point, may I ask what happened in between? (OS updates, steam updates, a long time in between, new installation, ...?)

Anyway: this thread looks similar, take a look there.

I figured it out and fixed the issue but thank you
