Game Hanging after Launcher

Haven't played since the start of the Leader pack. I've kept it updated and installed on steam since then though. When I play through Steam, I get the obnoxious launcher. Then when I hit play there, the game hangs infinitely loading. Steam says the game is running but its not.

Verified game files. still hangs
uninstalled game, deleted Civ 6 folders in my documents, reinstalled. still hangs

Anything go on in the last few months that is causing this?
