Hello people.. Dont you all think that Civ4 will be out sooner than we think?

I mean.. they tell us an awfull lot about the game and its characteristics.. so much, that the game already lives in our imagination.

Is this a sign that it wont take very much longer till the game actually comes out?

What do you all think?

I'd rather have a super game in november than a sub-par game now. They say they'll use the last months for polishing, and I really hope they do. There's no reason to aim to release earlier than november I think. Rather, there are reasons not to.

The pre-order dates for EB are 11/15/05

I really doubt it'll be out sooner than we think. The case is almost always that they could use more time. Or as Jesse said, "Mind you, being able to slow time down would be better!”"

they're relaeasing info as part of their media blitz... not sooner than november though, but hopefully before the year ends. maybe in time for christmas, although i couldn't imagine 9 year olds screaming at their mommies for civ 4.

They always said 'It'll be out in the holiday' in the interviews, correct? But can anyone tell me what that means? Which holiday do they refer to? Christmas? Easter? Autumn? Is this an American expression for a special date?

The Holidays refers to the Christmas season. In the US, there are a bunch of major holidays within a span of about a month (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and New Years). It is the major gift buying and giving season, and incidentally the date when most game developers strive to get their titles on the shelves as it sells better.

The ideal date for a new title trying to cash in on this is the Tuesday just before Thanksgiving (nearly all software in the US is released n Tuesdays and the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year) or the one before that. To much before and you are not the "New Title".

Ip has that right. You get the gift giver sales "Gee, Little Johnny always talks about ruling the world, maybe he'd like this new game I just saw on the shelf".

Oh, That's certainly true, but in februari, Little Johny may go for it because it's the only new box on the shelves and he is bored of Doom3.

I think people who like the game (genre) will buy it anyway as there is little or no competition but that it will loose out anyway towards the neutral/unfamiliar people.

I understand they don't try it as it is a big gamble not to.

The same way networkers will always suggest Intel and Windows towards their bosses.
If it breaks, it's Intel's/Window's fault, if they had suggested something else in the first palce, it's the networker's neck. ;)

thanks for the information, well the gift season here in Europe seems to start later on with the 'advent', the pre-Christmas time, and not already in the autumn.
also with this date for 'coming-out', Firaxis seems clearly to aim for a more young publicum. In this adds the 3D-world, the 'comical'-style, the 'beautiful' leaderheads and the overall set-up for the game (faster gameplay, 'more action', less numbers, more easily to see everything, etc.).
Is this scaring? I believe not, because that's capitalism, you need to get the young to buy the game, as they may buy civ5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, too... :)

We haven't seen a single screenshot from the modern era. And balancing the game is key. I'd rather they balance the game for as long as they want.

oh come on, its not like there isnt going to be a mod out a week after the game release with every little thing tweaked with a bunch of new stuff in it anyways.

the mods and scenarios for Civ4 will be so much more in depth for those of Civ3 with the new modding abilities of the game...so you could always remove that childish imaging (lot of work though)

I wouldn't mind playing a buggie version of Civ4. That is part of computer gaming. I mean they are always making patches for the Civ series, untill they stop it to focus on the next version. So cut it loose and let us help them to make the next patch.

I agree with you.. just let us play a bugged version and we help with making the patch :)

I beleive the game is not even close to complete. I work in the software industry and I know how this stuff works. Even end of November is a short schedule.
