This is a new error, along with the usual graphical hitches, CTDs, slow play that multiple re-instals have not cure.
Updating the MS XLM engine, fiddling with the configs, patching 1.00-1.09-1.52 or patching 1.00-1.52 makes no difference.
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, Far Cry, Live for Speed etc work fine.
This game just FUBARs everything.
Now when starting Civ 4, it goes from the intro videos straight to single player start of random map with no menus at all...
