Game of the Month 181 (August 2016)
The Pacific Islander

The human player starts in the pacific halfway between Australia and Hawaii on a small island. There are plenty of nearby small islands, some are trireme reachable but many are not.

The map is the large map of the Pacific that shipped with the game with small modifications made by me near player starting locations.

The rivals are Russians, Japanese, Aztecs, Chinese, English, and Sioux. English start in Australia; others in their proper geographical location.

Civilization: 2 Pacific Islander (Viking) settlers
Starting tech: Alphabet, Bronze Working, Ceremonial Burial
Difficulty: king
Total players: 7
Restarts: off
Roving Bands (-25)
75x120 Known flat map. As always, known map means you are encouraged to open the starting save in the map editor and refer to it any time you need to.

Deadline: Oct 11, 2016

On this map you inevitably have several cities on 1-tile islands. There is a bug in Civ2 that if you end a trireme's turn in such a city, the trireme may sink as though it is in ocean. (The programmer neglected to check for the tile the trireme is on and just checks the tiles surrounding it.)

If you have movement left when you arrive in such a city, fortify your trireme. This prevents it from sinking. If you do not, save before you move your trireme and reload if you lose it.

This rule applies to all GOTM games not just this one.

I came here to check the deadline and just noticed the deadline on this GOTM was set improperly. I fixed that.
