Hi

Just a quick question does Gunpowder units have any special bonus while fightning non-gunpoweder units ?

Eg. A Musketman while superior to a Longswordsman is not that more powerfull and both are units that combat in "melee".

Thanks

No. The only difference between the musketman and the longswordsman is that the musketman doesn't require any resources to build.

The big jumps in tech happen more often in naval warfare, where a Battleship is way better than a Frigate or Ironclad, than they do on land. Longswordsmen against Musketmen is not as dominating as it probably should be.

Then again the Giant Death Robot is a massive step up from anything else around it.

Well, judging from the fact that there were bullet proof armours even back in Renaissance era, I am not sure about muskets being completely dominant over Longswordsman. Longbow was more effective than muskets for a VERY long time.

Armour went away because of economical reason, not because of its obsoleteness. And one has to also remember that muskets pretty much sucked at hitting anything reliably, when it was creatred and for a quite a long time this trend continued.

I don't agree with you on that... early musketmen suffered from inaccuracies and very long loading times, and a Longswordsman's armour would protect him from all but a fairly lucky hit. The odds were really with the Longswordsman, especially where there was any sort of cover. So I'd disagree that a Musketman was "superior".

Later things got a bit better for the Musketmen, but it was not really until Rifling and the Rifleman that gunpowder forces became what we know today.

Gunpowder weapons were stronger in standing armies because you could replace a musketman much easier than an archer. There's much less training and practice involved to be effective. Then again, if plate armor can block a musket shot it can probably deflect an arrow.

Bows weren't truly obsolete until the Pennsylvania long rifle.
