Hall of Fame crash

Everytime I try to access the Hall of Fame, the game just crashes. I never used to have this problem before on my old pentium II computer with Windows 98. Now that the game is intalled on a Dell Pentium IV with Windows XP, the HoF just doesn't work (although the rest of the game runs much better on the new computer). Any ideas for a solution? Perhaps I just have a corrupted HoF file?

I have the same problem, either when accessing the Hall of Fame from the main menu or straight after the fairground style meter "Joan d'Arc the Foolish", etc after completing the game using the Space Race method. I'm running Windows 98 on a Pentium II 450 so I wonder if it's caused by the patch or something else?

I just hope it's not a graphics card driver problem cos mine is a very obsolete 16Mb STB Velocity 4400!

If it happens again I'll try and post up the message I get in case someone is able to interpret it.

holygrud - thanks for replying, it was looking like I was alone out there. When the HoF crashes occurs for me, I don't get any message, the screen just goes blank and then I get booted out to Windows. I was also wondering if it had to do with the latest patch as the patch came out pretty close in time to when I switched to my new computer. Finally, I've also done some modding (adding civs) so maybe that has something to do with it too?

Problem solved! Though I'm not sure how . . .

I uninstalled the game, saving my Autosave games in a separate folder, then re-installed the game and the patch. I put the saved games back where they ought to be and now, there are no crashes!

I think you may be onto something about mod'd Civilizations - I added my own race for a previous game a few weeks back which strangely never showed the HoF when I completed the game. I patched the Civ3 game during this custom game and continued playing so maybe the HoF got corrupted then while using this extra race. When I started a new game this week with default rules I then got the invalid page fault warning and the crash just before the HoF screen was meant to appear.

Hope this helps. :)

It might've been a corrupted HOF file. You can edit the file, and see if there's any "oddities".

The file that looks like it might the right one is HighScores.cv3. However, when I try to open, the computer asks me which program was used to create it? Any ideas how to edit the thing? Am I even looking at the right file? Perhaps some one can post a workable HighScores file?

(lot's of questions I know)
