Help I keep losing my Battleships

I had civ 4 for a while now but I still can't convincingly beat the AI navy, we both lose ships at the rate, I use jetfighters on carriers to try and tip the scales and it has had little affect, and i seem to lose my more experience ships as easily as new ships. Sorry look at naval combat thread, for some reason it diddn't show that it was in the forum so i started this one

What promotions are you giving them?

Also, try using subs with Flanking II - they should be able to soften up enemy surface ships without getting destroyed, letting your surface ships do cleanup.
