Hey all, I need some tips for modern age...I usually can own up to the late industrial ages...then the AI starts whomping me with their bombers and such. When i build figheters to kill the bombers, the AI eventually sends in tanks and such....and i havent had a :nuke: war yet so.....TIPS ON LATE INDUSTRIAL AGE please!!!

Sounds like you need to bring in the heavy artillery. Artillery and Radar Artillery. There's some artillery tips in the Strategy Articles forum. You'd also want to see where their planes are coming from (once, I took out about a dozen planes in 1 city!). It's best to weaken the city with artillery, then move in with tanks.

Artillery is indeed very helpful both on the defense and for offensive wars.
A city, defended by infantry (later MI) AND
artillery is hard to capture, even by tanks,
while such mixed stacks are perfect for invasions (e.g. beachheads).

Use the NAVY to bombard them back if you dont have fighters.

oh i see....i never used any land artillery past cannons LOL

Yep. Artillery doesn't seem to miss as often as cannons....;)

Seems odd that you "own" up until the late industrial and then lose it in the modern ages? Sounds like you need to build more tanks/MA. Combined with a few bombers you should be able to take out anyone. Artillery is generally too slow although it is great for defence and for cracking open the really big, tough cities. Fighters are generally not much use - better off taking out the cities that they are based in!

Always have a Settler in your Stack of Doom - run into their territory, plonk a city within 2 tiles of their nearest city making sure there is a rail/road link to what is now your territory then use the 2 tile range of Artillery to blow their city to smithereens from the safety of your new city before moving in ground troops. Disband the original city when the enemy city is captured. Rinse and repeat.

I'm not a warmonger but this is a reasonable way to pursue a campaign later in the game. Sometimes the enemy has a SoD of its own which is so huge you cant counter it but hey - if their SoD is in that place it means that somewhere else is undefended. Run a fast unit around their SoD before they can attack and pillage all roads around it then launch an attack miles away from their SoD :D

Thats worked for me at least once. It was quite funny at the time although I did lose a lot of units to the SoD before I could pillage around it.

I have found that one of the best things to use a little later in the game is aircraft carriers filled with bombers. Especially if they do not have a strong Navy. You can bomb their resources deep in the territory, isolate their capitol and bomb selected units that would be difficult to get to either within your own borders or just inside theirs (artillery). Even trying to pillage resources with fast moving tanks would leave them vulnerable to counterattack since generally it takes more than one turn to reach their resources. Also, if you are being attacked by their Navy, you can bomb them down initially using either artillery or bombers so that they don't attack your weak carriers. Of course I modified the movement of the carriers so that they are more useful, but I have knocked back a couple of civs to ancient times by bombing just about every improvement they have.
