ive searched the net for ancient civs and i only get the classic rome, egypt, persia etc, but i need the smaller civs, can someone help me? i need the name, maybe capital and w/ luck a map of their borders.
small civs from 1000 to 1 AD

like korea, the germanic tribes, etc etc.

well, first off you need some specifics, remember, the civs were minor, so most information on them is going to be coming from those larger such as Rome, China, and Egypt

but we can help, were good at that (sorta...) all we need are some specifics

the kushans in india, the khmers in southeast asia, the celts, find it hard to believe you could not find books on all 3 at the local library:)

As far as Europe...there were Goths (Ostrogoths, Visigoths), Franks, Gauls, Picts, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, later, there were some Huns thrown in there. The Rus as well.

For Korea...well, try a search for Koryo...I forget which period this was, I believe it was a dynasty anyway, and I forget the period when Korea was split into three kingdoms...but Koryo seems to be the best place to start looking.

Africa, eh?
Let's see, there's the Bantu, the Zulu, Tutsi, Hutu, Yoruba...countless others....a search on the demographics of African nations should yield the different tribes. It should be there, considering tribal warfare has been a driving force of destabilization in post-colonial Africa.

There have also been empire in Africa. Ghana, Mali, Songhai, Axum, Ethiopia, Nubia, Great Zimbabwe.

AZANDE! I love those little buggers from south of the Sahara :)

:D thanks, i think thats pretty much it, i only need one or two tribes/civs on the arabian peninsula from 750 BC to 1 AD. any ideas? it can of earlier or a bit ahead in the timeline

Many of those groups are hardly ancient, however.

stalin 006, go to the conquest forum, theres a thread on african civ's in some detail-dvandyke started it

They are hardly ancient....more like the Middle Ages (1000-1400 or so)...of course, I was never taught a lot about Ancient Africa...actually, hardly taught at all. Those were ones I can just name off the top of my head. However, articles about them may reference certain tribes in the western Sahara region.

so, any true civs of ancient africa?

Egypt, Kush (Cush), Lybia, Carthage, Aksum, etc.

Most of them are super-saharan. You don't start to see empires in sub-saharan Africa until about 500 years after the cutoff date you gave.

The Nok were an ancient African civilization who used iron. They were situated in the north of modern-day Nigeria. Their capital was, I believe, Taruga.
Flourishing between 6000 BC and 400 AD, they were the first west Africans to use iron (also using Bronze), although the earliest known use of iron was at Do Dimmi in the Sahel area (Niger).
Sorry, this is the only more or less organized subsaharan culture of antiquity. If I'm correct, they spoke Bantu.
