ok i have the planetary pack, and i installed it, but whenever i tried playing alien crossfire, it tells me i need to put the CD in the tray, and it's already in there, and when i try starting up alpha centauri it gives me a black screen and the computer crashes. i'm running the game on Windows XP, could someone please help me? thanks in advance.

Have you tried running terran.exe or terranx.exe?
They are in whatever directory the games files were installed in.
Where did you manage to buy the planetary pack?
I've been looking for it without success and eventually I downloaded SMAC/X from the underdogs.
The game played fine until I downloaded the patch and then I started getting 'please insert CD' problems.
I've reinstalled from the zip files and now it works again.
Also check that the Alpha Centauri.ini file has the lines
[PREFERENCES]
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1

yeah i tried running the game directly from the .exe's, i get the same errors. right now i'm using the underdogs version (is that an actual copy of the game or is it a remake?), but that one doesn't have the entire game, it only has the minimum installation. umm i can't remember where i got the planetary pack, but if anyone knew where i could get the rest of the game that would be really cool (they should really just release the game as freeware since they don't make any money off it anymore).

SMAC no-cd link is still functional
SMAX no-cd link here http://smac.2be.cc/tools.html which may be functional for both games.

YEs, thanks IdaGno! I did find a different solution, but it sure took a while!
It's a fun game, but the micro-management does get awful dull.

Good to hear you got it working.
I had the same problem with my alien crossfire CD (strangely, the original Alpha Centauri worked fine) I believe it's the CD protection (safe disc technology) not being able to authenticate the CD. The trouble with CD protection technology is the incompatibility at times.

So im using the underdogs version for SMAX and I downloaded but what does it is do? does play the movies and stuff for the Underdogs version?
