Help with editing

I am very expirienced with then civ 4 genre (altough i still play on noble lol) but i have absolutely no idea how to change xml or python. I would really like to learn how to program so that i could make mods

I'm sure you can find some tutorials on editing almost anything that has to do with XML, Python I don't think there is much.
