I completely forgot about this mod I downloaded forever ago and just started playing today, seems very fun! I did however end up getting crushed after I auto-DoWed every evil civ after building a Temple of Temporance which stated nothing about giving up my best town (maybe it's newest town, that might make more sense, but in this case the two are the same as the last town I got was also my best) to some other civ from out of nowhere and then DoWing all the biggest meanies around for the fun of it.

I almost held em off since it was my first game and I was playing a lower difficulty than I should be able to win at, but not quite. I don't mind random events etc, but I don't want to be responsible for my own demise by building something I don't know all the effects of; I couldn't find it listed anywhere that all that stuff was going to go down. Are there any other things I can build myself that I should avoid unless I want unintended consequences?

That wasn't the Temple of Temporance you built, it was the Mercurian Gate. The MG is quite clearly labelled as allowing the Mercurians into the game and that they'll take that city as their capital an be your permanent ally. And yes, their leader Basium is very war-crazy.

aha, reading comprehension ftw. i just saw the +4 relations boost from controlling the tower and thought that had triggered it; the tower and gate must have completed the same turn. All I saw was the -WW, didn't check the pedia, heh. Good to know it's my own stupidity! Thanks for the quick reply.

Basium/Mercurians always declares war on any Civ that has the Ashen Veil religion because the Ashen Veil is explicitly bringing hell to the world. That's actually the entire reason why Basium decided to leave his home and show up on Erebus.
