In an attempt to stimulate some activity, as well as answer player suggestions/requests, the HOF is experimenting with a series of challenges I am currently calling the Gauntlets (based on a challenge/thread by Mistfit).
For now, there will be two types of Gauntlets. Update Gauntlets will focus on Tiny/Small maps with soft deadlines of the next update. Monthly Gauntlets will focus on Large/Huge maps with soft deadlines of two updates.
The purpose of this competition is so that players may directly compete with each other for the same HOF slots within the same time period. To enter, simply play a game by HOF standards and submit like any other entry.
The best date/victory submitted before the "soft deadline" of an update will be acknowledged as the Sprint Champion of that Gauntlet. Since the HOF is a continuing environment, there will also be a Marathon Champion for the best date/victory submitted after the "closure" update.
So, if you start a game in a Gauntlet, but don't finish before it closes, send it in anyway. You might yet win the second (neverending) round, earn credit towards Quartermaster requirements, and as always an HOF slot!
Since this whole project is experimental, you won't find any reference to it on the actual HOF page for now. All results will be tracked here in the forum.
This thread will remain open for comments, all ideas, critiques and suggestions are welcome. (Be advised that a distinct thread will be opened for suggestions as to the mapsize, difficulty and victory condition for next Gauntlets.)
