How affinity accumulation works?

I know some techs just give you 1 level of affinity, but I also seen virtues which boosts amount of affinity obtained from techs.

Also affinity has points which upon exceeding some threshold gives you full new level.

How that works? I've found few articles on forum, but they only about using affinity.

Please advise.

No tech gives you a level thats affinity, only the ruins do. If you hover with your pointer over the tech symbol which includes an affinity symbol (the most left side of the tech entry) you will see something like +12 to Purity Affinity.
If you hover over the Affinity scoreboard at the upper left you see something like 2/12 points for next level. (The list where you can see the affinity bonus).

If your points reach the "12" in this case, you gain a level of Affinity. Later techs give like 40 (or 48 with the might virtue Adaptive Science I think). Thats often enough to give you multiple levels.
