How can I lower city maintenance costs?

I would like to make a semi-mod where I can build large empires like I have in previous civ versions without the stifling city maintenence costs destroying my science budget. I don't want to eliminate city maint. costs, just lower them. Does anyone know how I can do this?

So does anyone have any idea how this can be done? If anyone could at least point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it!

I guess not. lol

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but you could try doing what I am doing, adding an Organization Civic Option. Things like Hegemonic, City-State, Imperial that kind of thing. My City-State system, for instance has a much lower 'number of cities' maintainance cost-but at a cost to culture (no sense of national unity). Imperial, otoh, has much lower distance from capital maintainance costs. So, I guess my point is, look up CivicsInfo.xml and look for the two lines relating to distance from Capital and Number of City Maintainance.

You can also change the percentage of the default values in CIV4HandicapInfo.xml, both for you and the AI.

You can also change the percentage of the default values in CIV4WorldInfo.xml.

Don't know how to change the default values themselves.

Thanks alot guys! I was starting to think maybe this was one of the few things you couldn't change manually. The increased city maintenence costs from the last patch was kind of the last straw for me, especially seeing as the AI did not seem to suffer the same penalties. :cringe: If any of your ideas end up working I will finally be able to enjoy playing Civ4 again! :king:

Although, high matenience is the reason Empires dont last, so by lowering you take some of the realism out of the game.
