I tried to figure out how to do it in the diplomacy screen, but can't figure out how for the life of me. I didn't even know you were allowed to until the AI did it to me once or twice.

You cant cancel it until 20 turns have passed. Click on 'Active' for active trades/deals. Then just click the RoP to cancel it.

im having the same problem, more than 20 turns have passed, they havent canceled it yet, and yet in my trade screen is says that there is no active trade between my civ and theirs, only potential.

however there is still ROP going on between us because in the treaties section, it says there is a rop agreement between us, when i move to trade, it only says potential between us.

also, they are currently in my territory and i cant say "get out or declare war"
so the rop must be still active

thanks still want to know how to cancel thanks

I don't think you can see that in the trade advisor screen. Open up a diplomacy screen with the other Civ, propose a trade, and then click the "Active Trades" button at the bottom. The RoP agreement should be shown there.

that works i thought that you had to cancel it in the foreign advisor screen sry but thanks it worked

What you should do is check in "Always renegotiate deals" on Preferences. That way the AI will come and ask you to renew or cancel each 20 turns.

That works, but there are times you have a deal that benefits you and hope that the AI won't notice. When that happens, be sure to uncheck "always renegotiate"...at least temporarily.
