How do I install a mod?

I'm using windows 8

Probably a stupid question, but I just downloaded the Faerun Scenario for G&K but when I try to install it, it asks me what application I want to use to install a CivV mod file...

Why do you not download from Steam Workshop?

Like Aztecopi said, you can just search for the mod in the Workshop and then subscribe to it and the game should download it automatically.

For a mod downloaded from a source other than Steam, you should just need to unpack the file into your Mods folder (under My Games/civ v sub folder). Then go into the game, pick Mods, enable the mod, and start a game from there.

If it's a .civ5mod file you can just copy it into the MODS sub-folder and the game will auto-unpack it for you

I guess that was a silly question. I was too used to downloading mods from all over the place for the other versions.
