I'm playing a regent game right now and have gotten seven of the eight AIs to be polite toward me. The one who is furious lost all but two of their cities to me. I think this is a good game to try and get a diplomatic victory, and I want to know how long AIs will stay polite without me giving them more stuff. I'm about 400 points in the lead, about 10 turns into the industrial age, and a few turns behind in tech.

BTW, I've never been able to get a diplomatic victory. By the time of the UN I've usually had at least one war with everyone.

Finally, this is the first game where I've set my science to zero and bought techs. It is cheaper, but I've missed several wonders because of it.

better tip:build UN and when you are 1 turn from completing it sign mpps and Rop with everyone.they all are graciuos and you win.
i won like that in my GOTM

that dosnt always work... once i tried to get the Aztecs vote that way and they were still annoyed with me.

well then make that they get war with you..the MPP starts to work everyone is graciuos except 1 lousy moron you still win

alex: see to it that you can ally with everyone except your opponenet in the vote. He'll never vote for you anyways. At worst the vote will be inconclusive - then honor your treaties and try again next time.

btw: gracious will only happen if the MPPs kick in - so declare war on your opponenet, BUT DO NOT ACT!!!!! He msut be seen as the aggressor - you can alos try a spy mission with a high probability of failure.... then, he is the bad guy...

Well, MPP is not necesary. I've had civs become Gracious towards me w/o it. However, it only happens if you are constantly trading or buying techs (i.e: if you are behind in it), so it usually ends up very very soon. Be aware that the AI still loves backstabbing when Gracious anyway

Alex, ever heard about the "rep bombardment"?? It works something like this: Get MPP with everybody except the Bad Guy. Have this Bad Guy declare war on you (spies are great for this) Everyone will declare war on him as sonn as he attacks. In this way they break treaties and get angry each other. Furthermore, if they are Demo, there's a 90% chance they will break the MPP by signing peace too early...when everyone else has broken the agreement you are free to sue for peace with no penalty. Just remember to fight very little, and take no enemy cities. This trick won't stop the friendly AI trade (nothing will...) but you'll surely win the UN vote.

go for science....
give them all 4 tech free just before you finished building the UN
i always win 100% of the vote this way even with tons of wars :D

if you don't have tech, go for map, resources, their cities etc..... anything to keep them happy for 1 DARN TURN is ALL YOU NEED ;)

the stupid AI doesn't care what happen before that!!!
