How many of you play past 2020?

I never play past 2020. I usually have conquered the world or reached A.C. long before then. And once my civ has attained total world domination what's left?

Ugh! The last hundred years of the game are usually so boring I can't stand to play any longer anyway.

I usually finish around the 1970's or 1990's. And i try to win by doing both land on Alpha Centauri and conquering the world. Its a lot more fun that way and by the time the 70's come around i'm pretty much a lone first world superpower trying to tame beligerent third world allies form annilating each other. But on the next game i start i'll play well past 2000 and i'll try and each all 7 civs on the map.

I never play past 2020 either. I hope in civ3 there will be a challenge up until the end. they should make it harder to win the game early on.

Ni !

Sorry to sound so naive, but is it actually possible to both land on AC and conquer the world at the same time? I suppose that if the game doesn't finish until the turn in which you landed on AC ends, then you could be ready to wipe out everyone else that turn, but does it not just end there?

No, you have to move the rest of your units. then your turn starts over again. If it is the turn the AC space craft lands, it will do the land in animation first, then I think it will have that thing tha says "Your civilization has conqued the entire plant" then it'll go in to the power graph and ****.

I have never actaully though about playing past 2020... Once, in my highest personal scoring game, I was forced to take the game to 2020 becuase of spaceship flight time. But it was so tedious with 254 cities to manage that I was just relieved to have the game done with!

I never play past 2020 A.D. The score is calculated, and in the end it isn't fun anymore anyway.

I know it seem hard sometimes, but uh...
remember one thing:
through every dark night,
there's a bright day after that,
so no matter how hard it get, stick ya chest out
keep ya head up and handle it.

Just a thought... Is the game supposed to finish when your conquer the last civilization? Mine doesn't seem to do anything? Another thing... Does anyone bother developing the throne room anymore? I haven't bothered with it since I got Civ2... JUust wondering...

Ooops... And to answer the actual post, yah, I play past sometimes... Depending If everyone has been killed or not, I usually try and finish the job... And I probably have about 10 games where it's only me left and I'm just developing everything... But I usually get bored as hell by 2080 or so...

To Morgasshk:
Yes, the game ends when you conquer all the other civs, you see a nice animation with a guillotine. However, after you kill a civ, it often restarts on a remote area of the map, you have to explore to find these new small civs.
I always develop the throne room, its lots of fun, i've never gotten every last thing done but i've gotten pretty close...

I tried playing past 2020 a couple of times but there didn't seem to be much point, I soon gave up.

Somtimes i'll play past 2020 if i want to develop my "supercity"(size60up)And its fun to nuke anybody who's left and let gloabal warming take over

... when you conquer ... you see a nice animation with a guillotine. ...

That sounds like the animation in the 1996 release of Hasbro's Risk

. In it, a guillotine chops the head off a dude when you wipe out an AI civ.

I also normaly stop when i conquered the world. In my first deity level game i think i went till 2250. I'm now playing a scenario i found in internet Ukwo.scn, and i'm playing as the english (one city in a world of great civs) i think i'll go to 2500!

Playing after 2020 only if there is another civ to crush, or if we want to improve our civ.

I only stay many turns in civ after 2020 in one ocasion. When i only had civ1, i left the russians in an island and improve the hole world it was really boring but i'd never else to do that time. The last time i played it was in the 4th millenium AD.

I figure if I haven't resolved the game by 2020, it ain't gonna happen. Sometimes the turn after I've landed successfully on Alpha Centauri I'll nuke all my neighbors - but not save the game. It's just a nice parting way to show my neighboring Civs what I've thought of their behavior over the past several millennia.
