This is my first game on immortal, on island plates. It's kinda annoying because of the small island i started on, and lots of desert tiles on the mainland south of me, however there are some pretty decent settling spots (i should probably make two settlers, and settle one next to the cliffs over desert (on the desert tile surrounded by water tiles and the salt, then i build the unique improvement of Indonesia next to the whales.

I was planning on a religious victory (i'd never done it so far, and you can see why, i always change my plans). I have the feeling religious victory will be kinda tough here. Australia and Aztecs are now leading. Australia has the better science, so i'm planning on conquer them. Problem is, i really wanted to use naval units (and naval warfare), and now i'm forced to land units and land warfare (i have right now only 3 archers + 1 warrior. I don't have iron, however it's not that hard to acclaim it, but i would have to settle specifically for it. I don't know if i have niter (probably in the desert). And meanwhile the Aztecs are steamrolling again, like they always do in my games.

I think pangeae maps are easier for higher difficulties :p

Khmer and Jadwiga now started a joint war against the Aztecs lol. And Kumasi has Huey Tluacoali and Chitzen Itza. Another reason why i'm eager to conquer that. I guess i could try to take Perth and Newcastle with naval units, and then ask for Kumasi in a trade deal? Or I have to build a canal city after i clear the horse barb camps. Beeline for the jongs, build jongs, and use archers / and one melee unit

Science seems out as a victory type, since you don't really have a hilly central city. The other three are doable though, but you certainly have some catching up to do.

Just a few friendly tips:

- Don't waste too much time with granary or water mill. Builders are far preferable until you have nothing to chop and no relevant tiles to improve
- Buy tiles to get luxuries. Even if you already have that luxury, other civs will initiate juicy trades for your second copy, the tile price pays for itself pretty quickly.
- Get the naval policy card and spam quadriremes. Get the upgrade card and have 6-7 frigates (or more) and you can take several cities and defend easily
- Don't bother with land defense. Finishing cartography and having a caravel will boost your city defenses, and it looks like your cities can be defended with naval units.
- Use chops (buy a builder if needed) to get your second harbor for the Cartography eureka so both your defense and frigates will be faster.

Once you get your jongs(forgot their names) it all changes. I would also focus on quadriremes and then upgrade and and take some cities. You can faith buy some right before you get to frigates. Once you have those in place it is good. Focus on production rather than growth and money to pay for your upgrades.

Someone who knows why i can't take Kumasi with a caravel. I made a canal city. Kumasi is a hill city on the coast and i have lots of jongs and caravels in the inland sea. I also am really disappointed in the jongs, very weak unique units tbh...

It takes ages to siege, and it will take such a long time before i will have fleets and armada's. ...

If Kumasi is by the sea, it does look like it is, then it looks like you can get 4 jongs shooting it. Make sure each Jong has an escort, even if a scout, and with a strength of 44 it should be able to be reduced to 0 quickly so a caravel can then take it. If you have it to 0 and a caravel cannot take it then something is odd.
I'm guessing it's not strength 44 anymore

I have run into that problem. For some reason in an inland sea a caravel cannot take a city so you will need a land unit with your jongs and a landunit. One jong advantage is attaching land units to them do not slow them down

I couldn't take Kumasi with a caravel, but I've did it with a warrior (lol).
