Is this a bug? My city that founded the religion didn't ever convert to my religion, so I can't make any missionaries to convert anyone else. I appear to be stuck atm. Any idea?

This seems like a bug to me, didn't happen my last game.

Yes I have those.

Nobody? Even with a temple I still can't build any missionaries or apostles. I'll have to go with London's crappy religion since I conquered them.

edit: I guess I can't do that either since their religion faded out of London and all the other English cities I conquered. No religion for me I guess.

Your city that founded the religion (and any city you had with a holy site) should have been converted when you founded it.

It might have been eliminated immediately afterwards if there was a wave of missionary spam against your holy city.

Ok so if you don't have a dominant religion you cant recruit Missionaries, Apostles etc.

I had the same trouble on my current play, i had a religion district on a city but founded the religion on another, with stonehenge and the relative prophet.
That city converted to my religion but i was unable to create missionaries, not having religion district.
My other two cities, even if they where very near, weren't converting, so... no missionaries.
In the end (many wasted turns on retrospect) i bought two tiles to connect the owned territories of the stonehenge city to another, AND created a trade route between the two cities.
I don't know which of the two solved the problem (i guess the trade route), but than i could create missionaries, and having been waiting for many turns i could spam... quite a few :)

EDIT: as correctly onedream say in the next message i wrote create/build missionaries but meant buy with faith

Unlike what you have been replied, you don't BUILD missionaries and apostles. Go to the city with a religion and a district with shrine (temple for apostles), enter the city menu and the buy with faith submenu. That's how you BUY your religious units, and you can only buy them (with faith). What you can buy with faith depends on the dominant religion in the city in question (and no, there is no automatic conversion. You can have a problem if you build Stonehenge in a city without the religious district). You have to be careful in the early days of your religion, if you lose the dominant religion in your only city with it, you are toasted: you won't be able to buy that religion's missionaries again.

When this is the case, send the Prophet to the religious district, instead of sending him to Stonehenge.

Yes I know this part, I did it with my last game. I'm not sure why my city never converted. Maybe because it was 3 tiles away? I had it in such a sweet spot next to a natural wonder too, what a waste. It's possible England snuck a missionary past, but I doubt it. I was by myself on a peninsula. It was a rough start with no city states. Only a 1 tile choke point to get to England, made taking over London quite difficult. She didn't have the tech to get at me by sea, so she couldn't have gotten missionaries to my capital. My capital should have converted to my snake religion. I'm really disappointed.

i believe religious pressure mechanic didnt changed from civ5
so to spread your religion asap you have to keep your cities from growing, as each growth event adds some points of the dominant religion (in your case its pantheon) to the city's pressure points pool and it takes forever for your religion to spread there.
in my current game i used stonehenge in the capital to create a religion but a religious district was in another city. it didnt took too long to convert it as it had problems with housing and didnt grow.
also iirc in civ6 caravans dont help to spread religion

had the same problem but I understand how it happened (in my case): found a religion and my capital and holy city was converted by my neighbour before I could build a missionary. as in ciV a missionary bought in a converted city can't spread your own religion so I never had the possibility to reconvert my holy city, thus = no active religion.

Yep, happened to me too. Once none of your cities have the Religion you founded, you are out of luck. You just have to ignore Religion then. What I did was make sure I use the Government that allows buying units with Faith, so Faith won't be wasted.
